Got throught the New Year celebration relatively intact

Well, just as our motivator said at our meeting Monday night, before you know it it will be all over and it won’t be as bad as you think. That is exactly what happened. When I got on the scale this morning I was still below Monday night weigh-in weight.
It was a 4 course meal so I had vegetable soup with barley or some kind of cereal, maybe 3 points, Cesar salad, maybe another 3 points, I ordered extra vegetables with the meat instead of pasta (6 points). I almost resisted desert but when one of the choices was crème brûlée (6 points), I could just not resist. I also had 3 half glasses of wine. But hey, isn’t that why you have 35 weekly points. It looks like I still have leftover points. I am not going to get down on myself, it is not like I go to the restaurant every day, or every week as a matter of fact. I had fun, I drank less than usual and made some choices to make it easier to get through the evening while having a good time and not drooling over other people’s plates.

no more junk food

Day 2

Well day 2 wasn’t so bad. I definitely must go grocery shopping. I will make a list so I don’t buy anything superfluous (I’m thinking junk food) and so that I don’t miss any food tomorrow since all the grocery stores will be closed tomorrow.
It’s amazing how writing down quantities and points helps in eating less and better. Today I will concentrate on eating more vegetables. I had all my servings of fruits and vegetables yesterday, except they were all fruits. I will make a nice big batch of soup to get me until the weekend. When I have soup, I tend to eat less rice and potatoes and fill up faster. I also feel full longer.
Tomorrow evening is the New Year’s traditional first supper out at the restaurant with my relatives. I hope they have fish and salad. I am also saving my 35 weekly points for Champagne and dessert. Hopefully, I will have some left over for a glass of wine over the weekend.
I must do some exercise today, now that the pain in my sciatic nerve has subsided a little bit.

Must go do my grocery shopping!

1rst Meeting

Well my goal for a  healthy weight is 135 pounds, I would like to go down to  117 pounds, which I once weighed 6 years ago and when I used to be in my thirties.  I give myself three months to reach my healthy weight and 6 months to reach what I consider my ideal weight. That translates into losing  a pound and a half every week, which is quite manageable.

Looking back at 2008, I wasn’t on a diet and I did let myself go.  I didn’t pay attention to the quality and the quantity of food I ate and I just managed to balloon to an unhealthy weight.  I am borderline obese.  I did manage to pick up a couple of healthy habits though.  I started walking 3-4 times a week with my colleague Johanne 30 minutes at lunch time.  I will definitely continue once I return to work January 5.  I did notice that I maintained my weight when I walked regularly and when I prepared my lunches in the morning for work.

For 2009, I will try to do these three things:  prepare my food for most of the week nights on Sundays; go out shooting a least once a week for a minimum of two hours, once the weather is more clement; eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables everyday.  Every month I will try to change some other behaviours.

Signing off to read the new momentum program.

Hello world!

Well here is my new blog on dieting. I have read in many places that if I have a diet journal it will help me keep on track. I am a Weight Watchers lifetime member, having achieved twice my goal weight. This time I would like to keep it off, so I will swear off for the rest of my life taking mood pills which are known to trigger carb cravings. Instead, I will load up on Omega-3s and vitamin D.

I have found WW meetings around the corner from my place every Monday night so I will enroll for a twelve week program and hope that it will be enough time to reach a healthy weight of around 133 pounds for my height. My goal weight is 115-118 pounds.

The new WW Momentum program seems promising as it amalgamates the Flex and core programs together. That means many healthy foods, rich in fibre, which make you feel full for a longer time.

I will seriously have to start exercising more vigorously and regularly. Walking 30 minutes every day with Johanne my colleague at work simply isn’t enough. My goals must be realistic though. I cannot expect to work out at the gym 5 days a week the first week on my diet.

Tomorrow I will see if I will publish a self portrait of my body so I can see the progress I make. I will get a little weight loss ticker in any case to monitor my progress. Well, until tomorrow, I am signing off.
